If IT security is put under the microscope, three main fields come into focus: logical security (protection from viruses, unwanted access, etc.), technical security (fail-safe, redundant systems) and physical security (function and disaster control). Physical protection is strongly affected by the location and the security room. EN 1047-2 prescribes the security requirements of such security rooms. Only one room system exists which fulfils the requirements and testing of EN 1047-2, and is distinguished with the ECBS certificate from the research and test community

The requirements:
Modern IT systems react extremely sensitively to fires, extreme temperatures and humidity. Here demands are made which by far exceed the usual fire protection requirements in a building. Therefore for IT new limit values and testing requirements have been defined and described in the above-mentioned Euro norm. Hardly anyone is conscious of the fact that IT systems are already destroyed at a temperature of 70°C and a relative humidity of 85 % by volume. Classical fire protection permits however a temperature rise of 180°C and a humidity of100% by volume. In addition, classical fire protection examines only the time of the active fire admission (F90 equals 90 minutes of exposure to flames), if within this period the limit value is not exceeded, the examination has been successful. With an examination according to EN 1047-2 the stored energy is also observed after the fire has occured. The limit values are not to be exceeded even after the fire has been extinguished. The maximum limit values for the protection of the IT room are hardly to be ensured by conventional structural measures.
The system inspection:
With an examination according to EN 1047-2 a complete system is examined in contrast to the structural fire examination according to DIN 4104-2. That means a closed room system with integrated doors, sliding gate valve systems and cable bulkheads is placed into a furnace and exposed to flames at approx. 950°C for over one hour. After this flaming time the room system in the furnace and the further temperature gradient remaining are measured. The goal is that the temperature remains in this time under 70°C and the relative humidity under 85 % by volume, thus securing the survival the of the IT system.
The HSCC was examined on 10 December 2003 at the material testing laboratory in Braunschweig, Germany according to EN 1047-2 and successfully certified on 22 April 2004 according to ECBS. Thus in the case of fire the adherence to the limit values is secured. As this test standard did not consider protection from fire fighting water, which is to be always seen in connection with a fire, the HSCC was additionally successfully tested on 24 November in the testing laboratory in Bonn, Germany for water and dust proofing according to EN 60529 IP56.
Beyond these standards and characteristics the HSCC offers the following characteristics:
• Substrate (walls, covers) correspond to fire walls in accordance with F180 according to DIN 4102-2, also with reference to rubble protection
• Access is protected according to WK II according to EN 1627
• The smoke seal is carried out in the sense of DIN 18095
• The system is modular and thus flexible to arrange
The goal: The HSCC offers an holistic system which grants the user the highest physical protection for a room system. By certifying according to ECBS and the examination according to IP56 the user receives an holistic security solution, which fulfils any internal and externally demanded requirements.
